As many of you will already be aware, the General Data Protection Regulation is a set of guidelines that will replace the current UK Data Protection Act 1998.
This new legislation gives consumers more say on how companies use their data and introduces tougher fines for companies that do not comply.
The regulation applies to any organisation that collects personal data from EU citizens, and unifies rules surrounding data protection throughout the EU. Personal data doesn’t just include written information, it also encompasses photos, social media names and posts, and IP addresses.
Organisations have until 25th May 2018 to prepare their data and ensure they comply with the new laws.
